About Us - Black River Family Health Practice

Welcome to Black River Health

Founded in 1975, Black River Health Services (BRHS) is a full-service family practice providing affordable healthcare to residents throughout North Carolina. We are a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization, run by a volunteer Board of Directors who are dedicated to our dream and give countless hours of time to see it realized.

We provide a wide variety of medical and pharmaceutical services for both children and adults to ensure the medically unserved and financially burdened members of our state can receive the treatment they need, when they need it.

Our three locations in Burgaw, NC, Atkinson, NC, and Maple Hill, NC, may be located in Pender County, but we also serve residents in:

New Hanover County
Brunswick County
Columbus County
Sampson County
Onslow County
Bladen County
Duplin County

In addition to our locations offering full-spectrum medical care, BRHS is also the parent organization of Atkinson Drug and Maple Hill Pharmacy.

Our History & Mission

Mission

Too many people in North Carolina, especially those in rural areas, don’t have access to basic health care. For many, doctor’s visits, basic medical procedures, and prescription medications are simply too expensive to justify.

Our mission is to bridge this gap. Our goal is to qualify those who are uninsured, on Medicaid/Medicare, and those living in rural areas for our Medical Access Program. Our hope is that, through our efforts, medically underserved residents will be able to stop worrying about healthcare and start focusing on more important things.

Vision

Our commitment to our patients is as strong now as it’s ever been, but we’re only as strong as our support system. As a non-profit organization, we rely heavily on funding awarded through grants, local organizations, and the state of North Carolina.

We also rely on the public to offer their support and help us realize our vision for affordable healthcare and better disease prevention. Some donations are tax deductible, but all donations are guaranteed to change lives.
